OVERVIEW
Sneem’s Best Walks — From the Door, at Your Pace
The Sneem Self-Guided Escape is the most flexible walking holiday Álaind offers. Based at Álaind Lodge on the edge of Sneem village, you’ll walk the Red and White waymarked loop trails that start right from the door — no buses, no transfers, no logistics. Just you, a map and Kerry’s landscape.
Sneem sits in the heart of the Kerry Geopark — an internationally recognised area of outstanding natural beauty with geology, ecology and history layered into every hillside. The loop walks take you through this landscape at your own pace: through farmland, up into the hills above the village, along river valleys and to viewpoints that make it very clear why Kerry is what it is.
Three nights gives you enough time to walk both loops and explore the area properly. If you want more days, they can be added.

The Álaind Safety Net
The Álaind Safety Net —
Walk Alone.
Never on Your Own.
Every Álaind self-guided holiday comes with what we call the Álaind Safety Net — local on-call support throughout your stay. If you have a question on the trail, lose the route or need advice, Fergal is available by WhatsApp. You walk independently; the support is there if you need it.
THE WALKS
The Red & White Loop Walks
Sneem’s two waymarked loop walks are fully signposted and start directly from Álaind Lodge. Before you set out each morning, Fergal provides a map and a short information briefing — covering the route, what to look for and anything worth knowing. WhatsApp support is on standby for the trail.
The Red Loop
The shorter of the two loops, the Red takes you up and around the Lománagh hill above Sneem with panoramic views across the village, the Kenmare River estuary and the surrounding mountains. A rewarding walk that feels properly wild despite starting from the village edge.
| Distance: | Duration: | Ascent: | Max height: | Difficulty: |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9km | 3hrs | 165m | Approx 200m | Moderate — some ascent. |
The White Loop
The longer White Loop follows quiet country lanes for much of its length and is a great introduction to the Sneem countryside. The middle section is a beautiful mix of river paths, farmland and green trails with mountain backdrops. A perfect first-day walk or a more relaxed option.
| Distance: | Duration: | Ascent: | Max height: | Difficulty: |

| 13km | 4hrs | 220m | Approx 150m | Moderate |
