Our walking group enjoyed a fantastic few days with Fergal’s Álaind Walking holiday. The hillwalking was memorable with fantastic scenery. We were extremely happy with the accommodation and food. Our group valued Fergal’s friendliness, experience and expertise.

Fergal guided us on two brilliant hikes. He tailored the hikes to our preferences and fitness, gave us very interesting information about the places and brought us to beautiful scenic viewing points. We stayed in his fabulous B&B, driven to and from the hikes. I highly recommend Fergal to anyone needing a mountain guide.

He tailored the walks to suit our group of 9. We had some spectacular views. Lunch and transport to and from the walks were provided. A swim at White Strand was another highlight of the weekend. Can highly recommend Álaind Walking

We had three fantastic days of hillwalking led by Fergal. He’s a superb walk leader — very safety conscious, knowledgeable and passionate about the area, unhurried and really good company. The Dunkerrons are spectacular — some fabulous rocky terrain, dozens of corrie lakes and an abundance of wildlife. We saw several white-tailed sea eagles and grouse. It is such a shame that these mountains are sometimes overlooked by people seeking out the high Reeks.

Our group of 5 loved hiking with Fergal! He was very knowledgeable about the history of where we hiked in Ireland. But he also has a wonderful sense of humour, and we loved our 2 hikes that he guided us on. We felt safe because he knew the best paths, and we enjoyed wonderful views and learned about the history of the beautiful cities we visited. We highly recommend him and his company.

This was a great trip start to finish. Very well organised. We really enjoyed the walks (especially the post-walk swims!). The lodge was next-level comfortable with a really friendly vibe. Already planning to return.

My husband and I booked our first walking holiday with Alaind Guided Walking Holidays, Sneem, Co Kerry, and would highly recommend this company. We had three days of guided walking with Fergal Harrington along three different routes, with spectacular views of Kenmare Bay, from Sneem to Derrynane. As the weather was very warm on days 2 and 3, we walked through beautiful woodland areas, and each walk ended with a swim in the sea, which was sublime. Our accommodation felt like a home away from home and our hosts Trish and Chris – members of the Álaind Team – were warm and friendly and sent us off every day with a great breakfast and pre-ordered lunch. We will be back.

We walked the Kerry Way in May 2026. Fergal at Álaind organised everything for us, from advising on distances each day to booking accommodation and arranging baggage transfer and taxis where required. Communication was excellent and the information in the app provided was accurate and extremely useful. Thoroughly recommend!

We did a 5 day hill walk tour of Sneem and the surrounding area with Fergal Harrington, owner and mountain guide of Álaind Walking. Not only is Fergal a professional mountain guide, he is a polite, kind and friendly man who is easy to communicate with and fun to spend time with — we started out as strangers and left as friends. Fergal picked us up each day with a plan for a 4–5 hour walk based on our fitness and energy level. During our visit we stayed in the B&B run by Fergal’s sister and brother-in-law, Trish and Chris. Each day started with a hearty cooked breakfast along with a packed lunch generously included on the hill walk. We felt 100% safe under Fergal’s guidance and will definitely be returning to see our new friends

This was a great walking holiday. Superb scenery and having a guide made all the difference as we had local knowledge and also felt very safe. Fergal was an excellent guide and looked after us very well — he even made sure our boots were dry and warm after every walk. Trish and Chris ran the guest house and it was impeccably clean and warm. Breakfast had lovely choices and the food was fresh and well presented. Absolutely lovely hosts. We plan to return again and highly recommend Álaind Walking

I contacted Fergal with a rather unusual request — to complete 9 specific Vandeleur Lynams (600m+ peaks) in different areas of the Dunkerron range over 3 days. From initial contact, Fergal was extremely helpful, and even carried out some reccies himself to find the optimum routes. We had three fantastic days of hillwalking led by Fergal — a superb walk leader, very safety conscious, knowledgeable and passionate about the area. The Dunkerrons are spectacular: fabulous rocky terrain, dozens of corrie lakes and an abundance of wildlife. Álaind B&B accommodation is top quality too — lovely, spacious and well-appointed rooms, tasty breakfasts — and Fergal went above and beyond to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. I cannot recommend Álaind highly enough and will definitely return.
