Álaind Walking recently organized a hillwalking holiday in Sneem on the Ring of Kerry for Woolgreen Walking Club in Wexford. The group of 10 walkers enjoyed a weekend of challenging hikes through the stunning Kerry Mountains and Iveragh Peninsula.
Day 1
The Woolgreen members arrived in Sneem and checked into their ensuite rooms.
Day 2
On the first day of the holiday, the group hiked to the tops of Knocknagantee and Knockmoyle. At 676m and 684m high respectively they both feature in the 100 Top Irish Peaks and are included in the Vandeleur Lynams. Highlights of the Kerry Mountains, they afford walkers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, lakes, and coastline.
Day 3
On the second day, the group hiked up to River Hill at circa 400m from where we had spectacular views of Loch Coomeen and Loch Salach way below in the Derryleagh valley.
Today the Woolgreen Club would be walking the Sneem Mountain Lakes route, which connects Derryleagh to Derrynagree and runs across the face of the Dunkroon Mountains. This series of coom lakes scooped out by the ice-age glaciers are surrounded by sheer cliffs and beautifully wild and rugged mountains.
