The tastiest lunches are those enjoyed in good company in the mountains.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n What We\u2019ll Do on the Three Lakes Walk and Waterfall Sneem Mountains Walk <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
We’ll meet at \u00c1laind Lodges at 9.45 am before continuing by car to the start of the trail. Today\u2019s walk brings us up close to the spectacular Dunkerron Mountains<\/a>, Coomnacronia and Eagle’s Lakes and Coomanassig Waterfall<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Description: Moderate; 8 Km; height gain 400m; max height 430m.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
Today\u2019s walk is all about traversing the lower slopes of Sneem\u2019s Dunkerron Mountains. Although these mountain are between 600m and 700m high, we\u2019ll be keeping to a maximum height of approximately 430m. This allows us to get close to the beautiful geological features of the Kerry Geo Park, no matter the weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Venturing higher into the Dunkerrons of Sneem, we experience the ruggedness of these mountains. Colliding continental plates began forming them over 300 million years ago. Before this, shallow tropical seas covered the land giving rise to their old red sandstone rock makeup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weather and ice movements eroded the sandstone over millions of years. Today you\u2019ll find a geological wonderland of sheer rock faces, rugged ridges and deep walled cooms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On this walk we\u2019ll enjoys views of Dromtine Lake as we gain height. Crossing the open moorland terrain while walking in deep grass, we’ll reach the beautiful hidden lake of Lough Coomnacronia. Here, we’ll stop for a well earned lunch. Afterwards, we’ll traverse to the wonderful Eagles lake and Coomanassig, a 100m waterfall on the vertical cliff walls of Knocknagantee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crossing the humble beginnings of the Sneem River at Eagle’s Lake<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n If we\u2019re lucky, we might even catch sight of the Kerry white-tailed sea eagles which regularly visit the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
